Benefits Of Using a Forged Globe Valve

    Durability

The valve body and bonnet are made of forged steel, making it suitable for high pressure applications and providing resistance to corrosion.

    Precision Control

The disc of a globe valve can be precisely positioned to control the flow of fluid, making it ideal for applications that require fine flow regulation.

    Easy Maintenance

The design of the valve makes it easy to maintain, as the internal parts can be accessed by removing the bonnet.

    Versatility

Globe valves can be used for a wide range of fluid types and pressures, making it suitable for a variety of applications.

    Application of Forged Steel Valve

Forged steel globe valve is suitable for the application in pipeline containing high temperature and high pressure medium, such as coal-fired power plant, nuclear power plant, petrochemical system, etc.

The fluid resistance of the forging steel gate valve is small, and the sealing surface is less brushed and eroded by the medium.

The pipeline with relax requirement of flow resistance can adopt forged steel globe valve.

Forged steel gate valves are suitable for small diameter lines with Class150 ~ 2500, the operating temperature of -29 ~ 425oC(carbon steel) or -29 ~ 500oC(stainless steel) for shut-off or switching on the medium in the pipeline.

Needle valve, instrument valve, sampling valve, pressure gauge valve are for the choice for small type valve.

Butt-welded forged steel gate valve is simple in shape, short in the face to face dimension, easy for manufacturing and widely used.

    Types of Forged Globe Valve

    Angle Pattern

These types of globe valves turn the fluid flow in an upright direction without the use of an elbow. For fluctuating flow services, angle-type globe valves are used because they are capable of handling the slugging effect.

    Tee Pattern (T-Type)

These types of Globe valves acquire the lowest flow coefficient and a higher pressure drop. In severe choking services, such Forged globe Valves can be used. If the pressure drop is not a concern and choking is required, the T-type globe is a very good choice.

    Wye Pattern (Y-Type)

These types of forged globe Valves can be cracked open for long periods without severe erosion. They offer very small resistance to flow.

Valves depending on Body Bonnet Connection

    • Bolted bonnet : it is the most popular and widely used. Need a gasket for both body and bonnet joint sealing.
    • Pressure-Seal bonnet :it is used for high-pressure applications
    • Screwed bonnet :Inexpensive, very simple design.
    • Union-ring bonnet : A separate screwed union ring is required in this type to hold the bonnet to the valve body. This Forged globe Valve construction is usually limited to just 3 inches in size.
    • Flanged bonnet : It could be designed for any size and operating pressure. However, if the pressure is increased, this type of Forged globe Valve becomes very heavy and bulky.
    • Welded bonnet : This type is popular where no disassembly is required. Very lite weight.

    Troubleshooting Forged Steel Gate Valves

The valve is hard to operate

Foreign materials stuck between gland flange and stem. Disassemble the valve according to the forged steel gate valve manufacturer's guidelines and remove foreign materials.

Gland bolt over torqued. Loosen the gland bolt.

Misaligned gland flange. Re-align the gland flange perfectly.

Fluid leakage between the body and the pipe

Loose bolts. Tighten the valve-pipe flange bolts.

Worn out gasket. Replace the gasket.

Excess fluid pressure. Use a higher-rated valve or reduce pipe pressure to the level the forged steel gate valve manufacturer recommends.

    Leakage between body and bonnet

    Loose bolts. Tighten the bolts.

Damaged or worn-out gasket. Replace the gasket.

    Leakage through the valve stem

Damaged or worn-out packing. Replace the packing.

    Damaged stem. Replace the stem.

The valve does not close or open completely

Foreign materials stuck in the valve. Open the valve and remove all foreign materials.

Worn out or damaged valve seats. Replace the seats.

    FAQ

    Q: 1.What are Globe valves?

A: Globe valves are designed for unidirectional flow with characteristics that allow for easy and accurate control in general throttling or isolation applications. We offer Forged Globe valve designs in a wide range of sizes, pressure classes and materials designed for the oil/gas refining, pulp and paper, power generation and chemical/petrochemical industries worldwide.

    Q: 2.What is a Forged Valve?

A: A forged valve is made by the forging method. It involves heating metal until it becomes soft and then using mechanical forces to shape the metal into the desired shape. Forging defects include laps, cold shuts, cracks, and inclusions.
Forged valves are generally used on small, high-grade pipelines. Their cost is higher than those produced by casting. Forging is generally a better choice for large sizes since large castings can result in extra leak paths. Forged valves are perfect for high-temperature applications. They are less prone to thermal fatigue and are stronger than other types of valves.
Forged valves start the same way as a cast valve: molten metal is poured into an ingot or mold. Forged valves have increased performance in severe service and high-temperature applications. However, many valves have stringent requirements for materials, production processes, and testing procedures. A forged valve can withstand the stresses of high-temperature applications and high pressures without compromising its integrity.
Forging materials have better corrosion resistance and tensile strength than cast ones. The higher the tensile strength of a valve, the better it can withstand high pressure and temperature fluctuations. Forged valves are more durable, which means they will last longer.

Q: 3.What are the advantages of globe valves?

A: Globe valves provide good shutoff capability, good throttling capability, high reliability, and a variety of flow configurations. The globe valve's plug or disc adjusts from fully open to fully closed to match the needed flow rate for a specific application, making them a great choice for precise regulation control.

    Q: 4.What is a forged valve?

A: Forged valves are created using a forging method that involves shaping metals and alloys while they're in their solid form. Heat and industrial-size tools deliver compressive forces to bend the metals and alloys, and dies are used to cut and shape the materials to create specific valves.

Q: 5.What are the strengths of castings and forgings which are commonly used in the valve industry?

A: Forged valves do tend to be better for high temperature and high pressure applications. These types of valves are less prone to thermal fatigue because the walls are thinner compared to cast alternatives. Also, forged options have a higher mass, making them mechanically stronger.

Q: 6.What is the difference between cast steel and forged steel valves?

A: Cast steels have a chemical composition like forge steels but compared to forge steels they have worse mechanical properties which can be improved by their heat treatment. For cast steels the beneficial effect of forging (compaction of the material) is not possible.

Q: 7.What is the difference between casting and forging valves?

A: Casted valves tend to have lower strength and durability in comparison to forged valves. This is especially apparent in complex applications. Castings can also run a higher risk of having internal defects, as opposed to forged valves, which can impact the mechanical properties and the structural integrity of the valve.

Q: 8.How should a globe valve be installed?

A: Globe valves can be installed in a horizontal or vertical orientation. Still, the vertical orientation is preferred because it helps prevent debris from accumulating in the valve's bonnet. If a globe valve must be installed horizontally, it must be installed with the stem in the upright position.

Q: 9.Should globe valve installation be vertical or horizontal?

A: They are preferably to be installed with the stem in vertical upright position. Upside down installation is not recommended. Provide sufficient space for valves for easy installation, operation, maintenance, inspection and replacement.

Q: 10.Can a globe valve be installed in the reverse direction?

A: A globe valve is not bi-directional and must be fitted in the direction of flow indicated on the body marking, this is normally by an arrow, depending on the application of a globe valve, it can be flow over, or flow under the plug.

Q: 11.Are globe valves unidirectional or bidirectional?

A: Globe valves, on the other hand, have specific flow directions. They are unidirectional instead, meaning that fluid can't flow through them in both ways as it could in a gate valve.

Q: 12.Should globe valve be fully open?

A: Because globe valves force water to change directions even when fully open, they create comparatively large pressure losses. One of the core advantages of globe valves, however, is their ability to modulate water flow. They can be open, partially open, or closed.

Q: 13.Can globe valves be full port?

A: The port size in other types of valves tends not to vary; gate and globe valves are almost always full port by design.

Q: 14.What is the difference between T pattern and Y-pattern globe valves?

A: A Y-pattern globe valve has a more direct flow path than a T-pattern valve. The bonnet and stem meet the valve body at an angle. Y-pattern valves have less pressure loss. They also have the least flow resistance.

Q: 15.Do globe valves have a flow direction?

A: The most important thing to understand about globe valve direction flow is that they have specific flow directions. Depending on the application, a globe valve will have fluid flow above or below the disc.
