How To Choose A Float Valve?

When choosing a float valve, it is necessary to consider application scenarios, dielectric characteristics, valve performance parameters, installation and maintenance conditions, etc. Specific selection steps and points are as follows:
1.Clarify application scenarios and core requirements.
Type of system
Liquid level control: adjust water tanks, tank, oil tanks and so on.
Gas control: compressed air storage tanks, vacuum systems, etc. (special pneumatic float valves is required).
Special working conditions: high temperature, high pressure, corrosive medium or liquid containing solid particles.
Functional requirements
Liquid level maintenance: to maintain a certain level (such as cooling tower water replenishment).
Liquid level limit: prevent overflow (e.g. sewage treatment tanks).
Flow regulation: needs to be connected to a pump to control flow (e.g. agricultural irrigation).
2.Key parameter matches
Nominal diameter (DN)
Select according to the size of the pipe to ensure the valve flow coefficient (Cv value) meets system requirements.
For example, DN50 float valve is suitable for small and medium water tanks with a velocity ≤ 50m3/h.
Pressure level
The working pressure of a matching system is usually 1-2 levels higher than the maximum pressure of the system.
Common rating: PN1.0 (1.0MPa), PN1.6 (1.6MPa), PN2.5 (2.5MPa).
Temperature range
Applicable temperature for ordinary float valve: -10°C~120°C.
In high temperatures, heat-resistant materials (such as stainless steel 304/316L) should be selected, with an applicable temperature of up to 200°C.
Media compatibility
Corrosive media: Choose plastic (PVC/PP) or stainless steel body.
Particle media: Choose float valve with filter or full flow design.
Viscous media: Avoid small caliber valves to prevent blockage.

Adjustable float valve
Equipped with adjustable float rod, precise liquid level control (error ±5mm) can be achieved by changing float height.
Purpose: boiler feed water, constant pressure water supply system.
Explosion float valve
Applicable to flammable and explosive sites (e.g. petrol stations, chemical plants) with blastproof certificate (Ex d IICT4).
Structure: Fullmetal casing, no electrostatic sparks.
Electric float valve
Integrated electric actuator to realize remote monitoring and automatic control of liquid level.
Strengths: Connectivity to PLC/DCS system, support for timer switch.
V. Installation and maintenance considerations
Installation method
Horizontal installation: suitable for most water tanks, to ensure free float swing.
Vertical installation: A special bracket is required for the water tanks mounted on the side.
Inverted installation: suitable for underground water tanks, need to be inverted design.
Easy maintenance
Removable valve cover: Easy to clean valve seat and replace seals.
Maintenance-free design: Self-lubricating bearings are used to reduce the need for regular maintenance.
Fault warning
The float valve with the function of level alarm is chosen. When the level is abnormal, the acoustic and optical alarm can be triggered.
